Principal's Message

Welcome to Centinela Valley Independent Study School—Home of the Spartans!

It is a true honor to serve as the Principal of Centinela Valley Independent Study School (CVISS) and to join the outstanding Spartan team of students, families, staff, and community members. I am excited for the year ahead and look forward to working together to ensure every student finds success in our unique learning environment.

At CVISS, students experience a hybrid model of instruction. This means that while much of the coursework is completed online, students also participate in weekly on-campus sessions. Our UC/CSU-approved courses offer direct instruction and access to credentialed teachers in every subject area. In addition, our teachers hold office hours throughout the week to provide one-on-one academic support. For students with serious medical or developmental conditions, CVISS also provides at-home instruction to ensure equity and access.

Our mission is clear: to prepare every Spartan for success in high school and beyond. Whether students pursue college, a career, or another path, we are committed to equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and resilience needed to thrive. We do this through personalized learning, strong academic support, and a caring school culture.

Like the Spartans of history, our students are resilient, determined, and capable of great achievement. This year, we will embrace a mindset of relentless commitment—where the focus is not perfection, but consistent growth and effort.

Together, we will:

  • Commit to growth by recognizing mistakes as stepping stones to success

  • Push through challenges with grit and determination

  • Support one another, because no one succeeds alone

  • Celebrate every victory, big or small, as proof that effort pays off

Parents and families, your role in this process is vital. When students, families, and staff work together, there is no limit to what our Spartans can accomplish. Your involvement helps ensure that your student not only reaches the goal of graduation, but also develops the habits, skills, and confidence to excel in life beyond high school.

This school year, you can expect clear communication, strong support, and a culture grounded in respect, encouragement, and achievement. Every student matters. Every day counts. And every effort brings us closer to our goals as Spartans.

I am proud to lead CVISS into this new school year and look forward to celebrating our shared successes together. Let’s make this a year of growth, resilience, and Spartan pride.

With great enthusiasm,
